Ahh anxiety/Good old anxiety. We will all suffer from it at some point in our lives. Some of us might experience quick boughts of anxiety in stressful situations. Others may experience it for months or in rare circustances years at a time. Anxiety or panic attacks can be so severe it can drive someone into deep depression and cause chronic health problems. I personally believe the healthcare community does not give enough attention to anxiety. Many times a person can be suffering from anxiety and not even know it thinking they may be suffering with another health aliment instead. This could be high blood pressure, a heart attack, stroke, stomach problems, or even pyhscological issues. Whatever the case or cause it can be debilitating, so that is why I'm exposing the 6 natural techniques to control anxiety in someones life.

So here are the top 6 techniques for anxiety relief. Techniques you can use to prevent anxiety attacks and also stop them when you do feel them coming about.

1. Deep Breathing - I know what you are thinking... come on if it was that easy no one would have anxiety in the first place. But here me out. As a doctor I know a few things about the human body and physiology. First when take deep breaths in stressfull situations it allows more oxygen to circulate the blood stream and can decrease or calm our sympathetic nervous system response, or stress response, preventing... Anxiety. Which leads me into the number 2 best technique for anxiety relief.

2. Posture - Yes, it is true posture is the window to your health. If we really think about it most of our lives our spend in flexion, or hunched over. Do some extension exercises of the spine and body. Stretch, this will help circulation, clarity and oxygenating the cells.

3. Meditation - This truely is a masterful healing technique when used properly. I must admit I wish I was a zen master and could meditate for hours or even minutes. The ability to turn your mind "off" from any thought what so ever negative or positive for a period of time is an art in itself. If you have never tried it I encurage you to do so, but remember it takes practice and don't be discuraged if you can only do it for seconds at a time. Keep it up and you will get better at the technique and eventually feel a overwhelming calm and peace about you and life in general.

4. Exercise and Stretching - These kind of go hand in hand but alot of people forget about stretching. Yoga is a great way to combine all four techniques we have discussed so far and can truely help relieve anxiety for good when done on a regular basis. Exercise is also a crucial component. Not only will keeping fit help eliminate anxiety but when you exercise the "feel good" hormones get released which is always a good thing.

5. Eating Healthy - "You are what you eat" remember, food is the fuel for the body. This is also easy to forget and dismiss, especially when we have so many options for food most of which are not very nutritional. Why put that Big Mac and large fry in your fine tuned machine... called your body. One technique I try to live by as far as food consumption is concerned is ask your self if the majority of things you eat are "made from a plant or made in a plant". Obviously we want to consume more things made "from" a plant.

6. Find Your Happy Place - Yes, I'm recommending to day dream. Science has now shown us that our perception, or what we think/believe causes us to be either sick or well. If you have any doubt about this I suggest you check out the work done by Dr. Bruce Lipton Phd and his book "The Biology Of Belief" it will chane your life and thinking pattern. This really has been known by many for years in fact I'm sure at some point in your life someone told you to "think positive, you'll feel better" well its true and science can prove it now.

One technique I like to use when I feel anxious is to picture me in my happy place. For me that is skiing in the canadian rockies on a bluebird day with a foot of new snow. I can picture the breathtaking scerery and smell the fresh air. I instantly get a smile on my face and can actually feel like I'm there. I suggest you to find your happy place or multiple happy places that you can go to when you are having anxiety.

The mind is truely a powerful thing and when you can master the art of controlling it and your thoughts everything in life becomes much easier and joyful. I wish for you to achieve this soon. I will leave you with this thought to ponder. Someone once told me "no matter what happens in life, the one thing you can always control is not your brain but your mind."
